{"id":19162,"date":"2025-12-01T11:46:19","date_gmt":"2025-12-01T10:46:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.heatcom.dk\/underfloor-heating-system-at-hastings-pier\/"},"modified":"2026-05-29T12:44:20","modified_gmt":"2026-05-29T10:44:20","slug":"electric-underfloor-heating-hastings-pier","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.heatcom.dk\/de\/electric-underfloor-heating-hastings-pier\/","title":{"rendered":"Underfloor Heating System at Hastings Pier"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The Goal<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the \u00a314.2 million restoration of Hastings Pier in East Sussex, the Pavilion Restaurant &amp; Bar required a heating system that would not add excess weight to the historic cast-iron structure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A traditional wet system was ruled out. It would have placed too much load on the refurbished flooring and risked long-term structural stress. The challenge was to deliver a lightweight underfloor heating historic pier solution that could heat large, irregular spaces while preserving the integrity of the original superstructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Our Solution<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Through its subsidiary <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heatmat.co.uk\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/www.heatmat.co.uk\/\">Heatmat<\/a>, Heatcom Group supplied a complete 160 W\/m\u00b2 electric underfloor heating system for the restaurant, kitchen pod, staff areas and service zones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because the floor layout was complex, the system was divided into three heating zones using a combination of:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Loose 3 mm heating cable for awkward floor shapes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>160 W\/m\u00b2 heating mats for the main open areas<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">NGTouch colour touchscreen thermostats control each zone. Staff can easily manage temperatures across the building. Heatmat&#8217;s project manager worked on-site to calculate the heating requirements and align the installation with the pier&#8217;s structural limitations. Edmundson Electrical (Crawley) supplied materials directly to site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This configuration delivered full heating coverage while keeping weight to a minimum \u2014 a critical requirement for a Victorian pier that originally opened in 1872.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The Result<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Premier Electrical Services installed and commissioned the system in April 2016. The pier reopened to the public on 21 May 2016 with a concert by Madness. The new underfloor heating created a comfortable environment for staff and visitors without adding structural stress to the historic cast-iron framework.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The final system provides:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Consistent warm floors throughout the pavilion<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Flexible zone control<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A lightweight solution that preserves the building&#8217;s long-term integrity<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Heatcom Group, through its subsidiary Heatmat, delivered a lightweight 160 W\/m\u00b2 electric underfloor heating system for the restored Hastings Pier.
