A homeowner in Dobcross near Oldham, Greater Manchester, required a safe and reliable driveway heating system to prevent vehicles from sliding down a steep drive during icy winter conditions.
The driveway leads directly onto the busy A62 road to Huddersfield, making access both difficult and dangerous during snowfall or black ice. After years of struggling to exit the property safely, the homeowner turned to Heatmat (part of the Heatcom Group) for a durable and energy-efficient heating solution.
Through our subsidiary Heatmat, Heatcom Group supplied a 7 mm exterior ice and snow melting cable system installed in two heated tyre tracks running along the edges of the driveway. This design provided targeted heat exactly where it was needed — under the vehicle’s tyres — to ensure grip and safety in all conditions.
The cables were securely fixed to reinforced construction mesh using robust cable ties before being covered with sand and finished with decorative paving blocks.
To ensure automatic and efficient control, the system was paired with a ground moisture sensor and a 47 Amp thermostat, allowing fully programmable operation that activates only when ice or snow is detected.
The installation has completely transformed the homeowner’s winter access. The heated tyre tracks now keep the steep driveway free from ice and snow, providing peace of mind and safe access even during freezing temperatures.
“I’ve had a few hairy moments with black ice and been stuck in the drive on numerous occasions,” said the homeowner. “Now I can get out safely every time.”
