The scheme includes <strong>153 super-insulated Passivhaus-style homes<\/strong>, built with airtight timber-frame construction and supported by solar PV for an EPC A rating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because these homes have <em>very low heat demand<\/em>, a conventional radiator system wasn\u2019t suitable. CITU needed a <strong>modern, discreet, low-output heating solution<\/strong> that supported flexible interior design and worked within internal stud walls \u2014 allowing homeowners the freedom to choose any floor finish without compromising heating performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Our Solution<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Through our subsidiary <strong>Heatmat<\/strong>, Heatcom Group collaborated with CITU and low-energy design specialists <strong>LEDA<\/strong> to develop a tailored <strong>electric wall heating system<\/strong> for selected homes across the development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The engineering process included:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Full room-by-room heat-loss calculations<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>On-site testing using a physical mock-up built by Heatmat\u2019s project manager<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Scenario comparison to confirm output suitability for low-energy buildings<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Based on the design analysis, a combination of <strong>160 W and 200 W wall heating mats<\/strong> was selected. These mats were mounted onto board, fixed with tile adhesive, and plastered over to create a seamless heating surface within the internal walls of bedrooms, living rooms and hallways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The system is controlled by <strong>manual TPS thermostats<\/strong>, which monitor air temperature and switch the heating on or off as required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This installation approach also ensured that heating integrated perfectly with <strong>CITU\u2019s smart home platform<\/strong>, where residents can manage their homes remotely via the Actuate app \u2014 including a \u201cHome &amp; Away\u201d mode that powers down non-essential systems with a single tap.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Result<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The wall heating system provides a <strong>responsive, discreet and energy-efficient<\/strong> heat source ideal for Little Kelham\u2019s ultra-low-energy design.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to LEDA and CITU, the system outperformed radiator-based concepts and fitted the project\u2019s sustainability and smart-home goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This flagship scheme has since paved the way for a much larger <strong>312-home low-carbon development in Leeds<\/strong>, using the same design principles.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Heatcom Group, through its subsidiary Heatmat, supplied wall-integrated heating mats for the low-carbon Little Kelham development in Sheffield.
