Electric Underfloor Heating – AluMat 140 W/m² in Kitchen, France

Electric Underfloor Heating – AluMat 140 W/m² in Kitchen, France

Location: France

Project/Case: Residential kitchen, France

Year: 2023

The Goal

This residential project added underfloor heating in France to a kitchen with a wooden floor. The homeowner wanted to modernise the room with responsive electric heating. However, the existing floor created several installation requirements.

The client wanted to avoid a traditional wet installation. Levelling compounds would have added more work and extended the renovation process. The project also needed to avoid a significant increase in floor height.

Extensive changes to the existing floor construction were not desirable. Therefore, the heating system needed to use a simple dry installation method. It also had to operate safely beneath wood.

The finished system needed to provide even heating across the kitchen. In addition, the client wanted a durable solution supported by a long product warranty.

Our Solution

Heatcom recommended and supplied the AluMat 140 W/m² electric heating mat. The ultra-thin system was designed for use beneath wooden and laminate flooring.

Installers laid the mat directly above the existing subfloor. The system did not require levelling compound or another wet covering. Therefore, the renovation could proceed without a conventional wet-laying process.

The AluMat itself measured approximately 1.5 mm in thickness. It was combined with a 3 mm reflector underlay. Together, the floor solution added approximately 10 mm to the overall build-up.

This low-profile construction made the system suitable for the kitchen renovation. It limited changes to thresholds and surrounding floor levels. As a result, the homeowner could add heating without an extensive floor rebuild.

The AluMat includes a full aluminium foil layer. This layer distributes heat evenly across the floor surface. It also acts as the electrical earth shield within the mat.

A thermostat with a floor temperature sensor controlled the system. The temperature limiter was set to a maximum of 27°C. This setting protected the wooden floor against excessive temperatures and rapid heating.

AluMat 140 W/m² forms part of Heatcom’s range of electric heating mats. The product meets CE requirements and includes a 15-year warranty.

The installation was completed during 2023. Its dry construction combined the AluMat, reflector underlay, temperature control and wooden floor covering.

The Result

The completed system provides even and responsive warmth across the kitchen floor. Its aluminium layer supports consistent heat distribution across the heated surface.

The thermostat allows the homeowner to control the temperature. Meanwhile, the floor sensor and 27°C limiter protect the wooden floor during operation.

Because the system used a dry installation, the renovation avoided levelling compounds. The low-profile mat also kept the additional floor build-up to a minimum. Therefore, the process remained practical for the existing kitchen.

All heating components remain concealed beneath the wooden surface. As a result, the homeowner receives additional comfort without visible heating equipment.

This project demonstrates how underfloor heating in France can support a low-profile kitchen renovation. The system is covered by AluMat’s 15-year warranty and meets CE requirements. It delivers the required warmth while respecting the project’s floor-height constraints.
