EcoFrost is a serial resistive heating cable designed for demanding outdoor applications where reliable protection against ice, snow and frost is required. With its higher linear output, the cable is suitable for keeping roofs, gutters and downpipes clear of dangerous icicles and snow build-up.
EcoFrost can also be used for frost protection of outdoor pipework and for melting ice and snow on driveways, ramps, pavements, stairs and other open areas. The cable comes factory-terminated in fixed lengths with a 5 m cold lead, making installation simpler and removing the need for on-site termination.
The 20 W/m version is recommended for roofs, drainpipes and pipelines, where it is used for ice and snow melting as well as frost protection. The 30 W/m version is recommended for open area heating in the ground and is designed for embedding in sand or concrete to help keep outdoor surfaces safe and passable.
For installation in the ground, the cable must be fully covered by sand, cement or mortar with a minimum coverage of 15 mm and installed 15-70 mm below the surface. The minimum bending radius must always be observed, and the heating circuit must never be crossed, folded, shortened or extended.
Installation must be carried out by a qualified electrician, and a 30 mA residual current device is required. The system should be controlled by a suitable thermostat with the appropriate temperature sensor and, where required, precipitation or moisture sensors.
